Widow Support Initiative in the Dominican Republic

Bread to the Nations provides health education and food support to widows in need in the Dominican Republic. High blood pressure and diabetes are predominate in the Haitian population, especially in the elderly. BttN leaders have discovered that many people lack an understanding of how to best care for themselves as they live with the diagnosis of these diseases.

Each month, Bread to the Nations sends local nurses to the homes of the widows to ensure they receive the proper food, medications and understanding/education.

It costs approximately $250/year to provide the supplies and follow-up visits necessary to oversee the overall health of one widow.
